Professor Gilderoy Lockhart was a wizard, an author and the Professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from September 1992 until June 1993[1].
Personality and traits[]
Lockhart was selfish and vain, rather conceited and absolutely clueless as to the feelings and thoughts of others[2]. Despite this, he maintained a cheery attitude and it was perhaps only accidental after all that he was so clueless as to the emotions of others[2].
Physical appearance[]
Lockhart had eyes of forget-me-not blue, and wavy golden hair that shimmered in the sunlight[2].
Magical abilities and skills[]
- Defence Against the Dark Arts: Naturally, having taught the subject himself and having written a large number of books on it, Lockhart was an expert on defensive magic. He could easily recognise the Transmogrifian Torture, although he occasionally was quick to jump to conclusions about dark magic[3]
- Herbology: Lockhart had also met a variety of magical plants on his travels, and consequently collected a small amount of knowledge on the subject, although he was quick to accept that others knew more than he did[2].
