An owl is a nocturnal species of bird; there are different kinds of owl[1].

On the morning of 1 November, 1981, owls flew all about in broad daylight, delivering messages of celebration at the downfall of Lord Voldemort, who had reigned for eleven years[1]. Most people found the owls very odd, stopping to stare at them, and a comment was made about them on that night's news[1].

Hedwig was a snowy owl and the pet of Harry Potter; she was an eleventh birthday present for him by Rubeus Hagrid[2].
