A memorial was made for James and Lily Potter sometime after their death on 31 October, 1981. It was a large stone statue depicting a messy-haired and bespectacled James, a very pretty and long-haired Lily, and a smiling, scarless baby Harry.
On Christmas Eve of 1997, Harry Potter and Hermione Granger visited Godric's Hollow where the statue was built, in order that they could visit the actual graves of James and Lily; all three of the statue's heads were covered in snow, like fluffy caps. It surprised Harry to see him looking happy and without his famous lightning-bolt scar.
